I have a question to ask you on behalf of my seven year old daughter, who is doing a homework research project- she has chosen Leavitt Bulldogs as her topic. She would be so happy to get a couple of responses. She would like to know what made you choose the Leavitt in the first place? This especially goes out to any breeders who have a spare couple of minutes!

Darren Moody Hi Mark I'm new to the breed and shortly picking my first Leavitt bulldog up from Jessica Lonsdalebull. I have long been a fan of bullbreeds. I come from a gundog and working dog background, So I was looking for a medium sized active intelligent bullbreed. Id met some olde tyme Bulldogs years ago but that was my only contact. I researched the breed as much as I could online and then visited jess, having met her dogs seeing how calm and stable they were coupling that with their appearance was enough for me.

Marie Carey-Morris I personally wanted an English Bulldog many years ago, but when I visited with a breeder that had a couple Leavitts, I was hooked. I wanted a bulldog that was healthy, good with kids and would be able to keep up with my busy life. An English Bulldog is not that! But a Leavitt Bulldog had everything I wanted, from the size to health, free breathing and athletic, loved their appearance, but most of all I loved how confident and strong they were yet so gentle with kids. This breed has surpassed all my expectations and I absolutely love everything about them. I am now addicted to Leavitt Bulldogs!

Laure Hanouna I used to own an english bulldog, and started searching on the web for a second dog (in 1999) as I wanted a more athletic dog. I came across the olde english bulldogge (former name of the leavitt bulldog) by chance. At the same time, I discovered the american bulldog. As I couldn't choose between them, I took one of each.
Owning these 3 different types of bulldog, it became clear that the leavitt had it all... couldn't leave without one anymore. grin emoticon

Aaron Jule I fell in love with English Bulldogs when I was 9. When I was finally adult enough to own a dog, I started my research too.
The Leavitt Bulldog has the bully look that I've always loved, but far healthier as a breed. Also I like the fact the dogs free whelping and the breed standards means no docking of the tail or ears. A naturally beautiful dog.
Hazel has proven to be a loving, playful, loyal, smart, caring and when need be protective member of the Family.
The Leavitt Bulldog community have been very welcoming and willing to share information and educate.
Good luck with her project.

Cindy de Flart We have had a german shepherd for 12 years. She was an incredible dog. This made us look for another breed as we didn't wanna compare our new dog to the best. It would be unfair. We wanted a smaller dog but one that still had it all. We came across the LB and were hooked from the start. We picked up Gucci from DeWinters kennel. Now 8 years later we are owned by 12 lb's 😅

Kate Norris Hello, we have one of Jessica Lonsdalebull 's from Ruby's previous litter born September 2013. We previously had a French Mastiff who we adored, but decided we also didn't want to compare him with a new dog. Also, with our next family dog we wanted something with a longer life expectancy, something a bit smaller so it would be easier for our 2 and 4 year old children with play with, more healthy and agile, and smaller so it was easier to have around the house in general and take out and about with us. We did however want to keep the look of a mastiff in the face, so after much research we found the Leavitt Bulldog and then fell in love with Jessica's brood, and were lucky enough to be offered one to join our family. Thus, Wiggy arrived! Good luck to your daughter, a great topic.

Stacey Persico I met my first Leavitt Bulldog by accident, he had gotten loose and was running at me. I was a little intimidated but I remained calm and stood still as I knew someone must be missing this beautiful beast and I wanted to get him home. When he got to me, he was all wiggles and kisses. I was pretty much hooked then. Now I have 5 at home. I love their strength and determination, their eagerness to please and their loyalty. I love their gentleness and loving wiggles. They have great agility, they are free breathers and have all around good health. They are so smart and capable of doing many tasks, weight pull, nose work, agility training, protection. They are fantastic with children, very tolerant and gentle. They just love to be by your side! I am hooked on and in love with this breed! Good luck to your daughter on her project!

Mauris Ctres I choose LB. Because I had the oportunity to see a couple of them competing in a K9 Protection event in Puerto Rico. They did great and were so different from the usual German Shepperds and Malinois. Both of them were LB, Today I owe a female LB and she already quilified in a K9 Pro Sports event. So I choose LB for their protection work capacity.

Jessica Lonsdalebull How great I am loving reading this! Well done Freya for picking such a great topic!!!...

Our story was when me and Steve where 1st together, we stumbled across the LB by chance. There was a litter of olde Bulldogs bred by a man who owned a pet shop in East London, they where not his 'pet shop' dogs but his own, he showed us a book with a green cover called 'world of fighting dogs' the content is not as graphic as the title it's actually a wonderful book. In there there is a whole chapter that was about David and his Bulldogs. The breeder was trying to imitate what David has achieved as many others did, he was a passionate old man, they were what we wanted...we bought one of those Puppies, his name was Bert.... A very long story short Bert was very sick, he ended up being put to sleep at just 4. It did not stop us, I hunted down this book with the green cover, read all I could about the Leavitt Bulldog and found a breeder in Europe. This was when the internent was not overflowing with dog information, there was not much about back then about the breed. I was Encouraged even more when we found out about the health testing, and effort being made to breed healthier dogs and the obvious historical connection to England, I was in love!
We then imported the 2 lovely old and starting to now grey Billy and Rosa. The 2st two Leavitt Bulldogs to the UK, we had no idea where it would take us, but we are still here now all these years learning as we go, sharing these fab dogs as we go! I

Laure Hanouna Yes Mark, but at that time (back in 1999), informations were really hard to find, and these dogs were hard to find in Europe. I imported my AB from USA (she was Johnson line and the only AB available in Europe were standard/Scott bred). Hopefully, the first litter of LB in Europe (France) was born in November 1999 and I was lucky enough to get one.
16 years later, you can easily meet AB's and travelling a bit, LB's are also availables.

Jill Mastiff Mark Wareham, look how many responses she got. And she was only looking for a couple. Hope she gets an A!

Joe Albe I wanted a bulldog, but not the health issues that come with them. When I heard about the Leavitt Bulldogs, I fell in love with them.
